DJ Lagway, Willis down Tomball Memorial in Texas high school football playoffs

5-star Florida commit throws 5 TDs to Jermaine Bishop in 2023 UIL area round

DJ Lagway and undefeated Willis' Texas high school football playoff run will last at least another week.

The 5-star Florida commit threw all five of his touchdown passes to Jermaine Bishop as the Wildkats (12-0) ran away from Tomball Memorial 42-21 to advance to the regional semifinals where it will face No. 1 DeSoto on Friday.

It's the first trip to the regional semifinals since 1994 for Willis, SBLive's No. 17 ranked team in Texas, and the program's best record in more than 60 years.

Lagway has been one of the country's most prolific high school quarterbacks this fall. He'd accrued 3,807 passing yards, 51 touchdowns opposite 6 interceptions on a 75.2 percent completion rate entering Friday's contest.

More than 1,100 of those yards and 12 touchdowns have gone to Bishop, a sophomore cornerback prospect with offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Florida and others.

DeSoto, the defending 6A Division II state champion, beat Wylie East on Friday.
