Atascocita defeats Lamar: Texas high school football playoff live updates recap

The Houston area schools faced off in the UIL regional semifinals Friday night. Here are the highlights.

We know who will meet up with nationally ranked North Shore in the UIL Class 6A Division 1 regional finals next week.

Atascocita (11-2) raced past Lamar (12-1) for a 34-14 victory in the regional semifinals Friday night at NRG Stadium.

Following a scoreless first half from both team, Atascocita senior Zion Brown passed for one touchdown and rushed for another in the second half to help lead the Eagles to victory.

Ranked No. 22 in the Lone Star state, Atascocita was coming off a 61-35 win over Pearland in the area round, while Lamar defeated Ridge Point, 31-28.

Here are some of the biggest moments and scoring plays from Atascocita vs. Lamar.

FOURTH QUARTER

-- Deep in their own territory, Lamar quarterback Jordan Reaves tries to throw the ball away but it turns into a fumble that is recovered by Atascocita at the 1-yard line and returned for a touchdown. The extra-point attempt is no good. (Atascocita, 34-14 | 0:53)

-- Atascocita makes the turnover count, as Zion Brown keeps it himself for the 8-yard touchdown run. It's looking good for the Eagle with less than two minutes remaining. (Atascocita, 28-14 | 1:50)

-- Right after Atascocita turns the ball over on downs, Kyran Lee comes up with an interception to give the ball back to the Eagles.

THIRD QUARTER

-- Atascocita extends its lead with a 52-yard touchdown run by Tory Blaylock. After no points through the first two quarters, we have two scores here early in the third quarter. (Atascocita, 14-0 | 9:14)

-- Scoreless no more. Atascocita breaks the tie on the first play of the second half, as Zion Brown airs one out to Cameron Glenn for a 90-yard touchdown. (Atascocita, 7-0 | 11:41)

SECOND QUARTER

-- A couple Hail Mary attempts by Lamar fall incomplete. We go to halftime with zero points on the board in what has been a battle of defenses.

-- Lamar's defense forces a quick punt, so the Texans will have one more attempt to score before halftime. 

-- Now Lamar puts together a long drive that ends with a missed field goal, this one from 28 yards out. Only 50 seconds remain in the second quarter, so Atascocita will need to move quickly if it wants to score before halftime.

-- A solid drive by Atascocita nearly results in the first points of the night, but the Eagles miss a 36-yard field goal.

FIRST QUARTER

-- No points here through one quarter. Atascocita has the ball near midfield after forcing another punt. 

-- On 4th and 2 from the 26-yard line, Atascocita goes for it and fumbles. The Texans recover and take over on offense at their own 26. 

-- The Texans make some progress moving down the field but are forced to punt. Atascocita will start its first drive at its own 31-yard line.

-- Lamar wins the coin toss and chooses to receive. The Texans will start out the game on offense.
