DeSoto defeats Cedar Hill: Texas high school football playoff live update recap

Nationally ranked DeSoto continues impressive run toward repeat UIL 6A Division II state championship in win over Cedar Hill

Nationally ranked DeSoto faces Cedar Hill in the regional final round of the Texas high school football playoffs on Friday night. 

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Kincaide Stadium in Dallas. The winner faces the winner of Southlake Carroll and Byron Nelson, which takes place Saturday.

The Eagles (12-0) are riding high off of a win over 5-star Florida-bound QB DJ Lagway and previously undefeated Willis in the regional semifinals.

The Longhorns (8-5) beat Tomball convincingly in the third round behind a massive night from Dayshun Reese-Williams (14 carries, 140 rushing yards) and Cederick Castleberry (118 yards, two touchdowns).

FOURTH QUARTER

-- Ball game. DeSoto wins 59-16. The Eagles face the winner of Saturday's Southlake Carroll/Trophy Club Byron Nelson game next week in a location, date to be announced. 

-- Eagles running the ball to roll the clock. Less than a minute left. 

-- DeSoto's Jai Trawick gets in on the interception party. He picks the ball at the 11-yard line and runs it back to the 34. That's four interceptions this game.

-- Edwards threw to Bright for a 35-yard gain to move into DeSoto territory. Less than 5 minutes left with the clock rolling. 

-- DeSoto looked to have gotten a touchdown pass from backup QB Chad Williams to Kristoff Fantroy but a hold negates it. The Eagles have mostly the JV lineup on the field now. 

THIRD QUARTER

-- DeSoto gets another score on the board. Bailey hits freshman Ethan 'Boobie' Feaster for a 12-yard touchdown. The running clock coming up in the 4th quarter. (DeSoto, 59-16 | 0:24)

-- Deondrae Riden Jr. moves over the 100-yard mark with a carry on the first play. That is 4 straight 100-plus yard games in the postseason for the Eagles running back. 

-- Sael Reyes with an interception for DeSoto. He gets it at the 20-yard line, however Eagles called for a penalty on the return. 3:19 left. Eagles ball at own 12 when play resumes. 

-- On the first play, Jaden Trawick takes the handoff and runs up the middle for a touchdown. (Desoto, 52-16 | 7:18)

-- Cedar Hill punts and it goes 10 yards. Eagles take over at the Longhorns' 23-yard line. 

-- DeSoto seems to find a way to respond quickly to each score by Cedar Hill. Pride gets it, runs up the middle, cuts toward the Cedar Hill sideline and avoids the last-chance tackle. 87-yard kickoff return. (DeSoto, 45-16 | 8:06)

-- Cedar Hill gets the ball first and Edwards comes out firing. He completes all 5 passes. The last was a 32-yard touchdown pass to Kymeion Turner. Longhorns went for 2 and Scott ran in the conversion, but there was a flag. The Longhorns tried for 2 again but the pass fell incomplete. (DeSoto, 38-16 | 8:22)

SECOND QUARTER

-- DeSoto tries for a pass and the runner goes out of bounds at the 10-yard line. Halftime. DeSoto up 38-10.

-- DeSoto trots out Diaz to attempt a 52-yard field goal with 5 seconds left. Cedar Hill calls a timeout to try to ice him. 

-- Cedar Hill is forced to punt and the Eagles will get the ball late in the first half. 

-- Cedar Hill throws another interception and the Eagles return it for another touchdown. SMU pledge Brandon Booker with the 17-yard return. (DeSoto, 38-10 | 2:18)

-- Drive fizzles out as far as a touchdown, but DeSoto gets a 38-yard field goal from Angel Diaz to extend the lead again. (DeSoto, 31-10 | 2:33)

-- Bailey goes back to Pride for a 43-yard gain. That moves the Eagles into the Longhorn red zone on the 2nd play of this drive. 

-- Cedar Hill puts 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end Zhaylen Scott in at QB on the 2-point conversion. He runs it in for 2. (DeSoto, 28-10 | 4:44)

-- Longhorns go for a 2-point conversion but the pass is incomplete. However, flags for pass interference on DeSoto and an illegal formation call on Cedar Hill lead to another try. 

-- Cedar Hill breaks the 22-point run by DeSoto. Quarterback Anthony Edwards throws a slant route to Le'Keldrick Bridges, who breaks a tackle and dashes his way into the end zone with a 25-yard touchdown. (28-6, DeSoto | 4:44) 

-- Marvin Duffey gets into the scoring act for DeSoto with a 1-yard run as well. (28-2, DeSoto | 7:58)

FIRST QUARTER

-- Another touchdown for DeSoto. Marshall Kirven with an interception return for the Eagles. (21-2, DeSoto | 3:05)

-- Deondrae Riden Jr. with a 1-yard run and the Eagles go for two. Bailey runs in the conversion to extend the lead. (14-2, DeSoto | 4:04)

-- Cedar Hill gives up a score early, but scores a major strike. Yusuf Thomas returns a blocked PAT 67 yards into the endzone, which counts as a safety. Special teams scores the Longhorn's first points (6-2, DeSoto | 10:01)

-- DeSoto strikes first. Darius "DJ" Bailey hits Antonio Pride Jr. for a 37-yard TD reception and the Eagles strikes first. PAT blocked ... hold for the rest. (6-0, DeSoto | 10:01
