Cody Stoever's tying conversion stopped short as Bellville staves off dramatic comeback to reach UIL 4A Division II football championship

Wimberley and Bellville are battling over a trip to the Texas high school state football championships. 

The UIL Class 4A Division II semifinal showdown between the Texans (14-0) and Bellville (14-0) at The Pfield in Pflugerville will face the winner of Glen Rose and Gilmer on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

FOURTH QUARTER

-- Bellville kneels. Brahmas are headed to Arlington. What a game. 

-- Steoever is stopped at the one-yard line on a diving effort, coming up inches short of tying the game with 43 seconds left. A Greek tragedy of an ending for a Herculean performance.

-- Stoever steps out of the pocket and connects with a receiver inside the 5-yard line, then runs the ball in two plays later to pull Wimberley close to Bellville. Wimberley needs two to tie with under a minute to go. (35-33, Bellville | 0:43)

-- Cody Stoever is having an all-timer tonight. He converts on 4th and 6 on his feet, diving with his arm outstretched to convert, to keep a potential game-tying drive alive. 

-- What a stop. Wimberley stuffs Bellville in its own territory on 3rd and 13, gets the ball back with around three minutes left, down eight. Here we go.

-- Touchdown, Wimberley. Cody Stoever takes a massive it on a designed run play, then drags the defender and pulls him, diving across the plane for a short-yardage score. What an effort to jolt the Texans' comeback efforts. PAT rattles of the bar. (35-27, Bellville | 6:00)

-- Wimberley scores again. Cody Stoever runs in from three yards out, his third of the night. (28-21, Bellville | 0:43)

-- Touchown, Bellville. Corddian Hood takes a run 69 yards for a touchdown and the Brahmas take a two-score lead. (28-14, Bellville | 11:05)

SECOND QUARTER

-- Touchdown, Texans. DD Murray takea a pitch up the middle, weaves through blocks and finds daylight down the right side for a 28-yard TD run. (21-14, Bellville | 1:17)

-- All knotted up again. Stoever, again, bullies in a yard for short-gain score. The Texans prove capable of a quick-response. (14-14 | 5:30)

-- Bellville retakes the lead. On 4th and 1, Sam Hranicky converts a short-gain TD run. (14-7, Bellville | 10:33)

FIRST QUARTER

-- Wimberley responds, and Cody Stoever's on the other line. The dynamic running back punches in a 5-yard TD run and the Texans tie it up. (7-7 | 4:09)

-- Touchdown, Bellville. Junior defensive end DJ Sanders strips the ball and returns it the distance (27 yards) for the game's first points. (7-0, Bellville | 11:05)
