Texas high school football: Terry Bussey, Alex January headline SBLive All-American team

Timpson star, nation's No. 1 athlete nabs 2023 offensive MVP. Who else made the cut?

Once again, Texas produced some of the best high school football teams, players and moments across the country during the 2023 season.

It's only fitting the Lone Star State was well-represented in All-American recognition.

Five-star Terry Bussey, the nation's No. 1 athlete, is the Offensive Player of the Year and first team All-American as an all-purpose standout after leading Timpson (Texas) to its first state championship in school history.

Claude Mathis is the national coach of the year after leading DeSoto (Texas) to a repeat 6A Division II state championship. Willis' DJ Lagway, Duncanville's  Collin Simmons and Alex January were all chosen to the first team.

Four Texas teams finished in SBLive/SI's national rankings: No. 2 DeSoto (16-0), No. 7 Duncanville (14-1), No. 13 North Shore (15-1), No. 19 Aledo (16-0) and Austin Westlake (honorable mention).
