TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES

Aniah Alexis, Katy Cypress Lakes girls basketball

The Rice signee scored 42 points and helped the Lady Spartans to a 65-53 win over Houston Langham Creek on Tuesday in a District 16-6A battle.

Justin Begg, Bellaire Episcopal boys basketball

The George Mason signee led the Knights with 21 points to help beat Dallas St. Mark’s School of Texas in the Southwest Preparatory Conference 4A championship game on Saturday.

Hailey Bello, Houston Langham Creek girls wrestling

The junior improved to 40-5 on the year by winning the Region 3-6A 100-pound bracket on Saturday in Katy. She was 4-0 during the event with a pair of pins.

Austin Brown, Lufkin boys basketball

The sophomore had 22 points in a win over Nacogdoches on Feb. 6 and surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career. The Panthers also clinched their third straight district title.

Alyssa Buchanan, Carrollton Prince of Peace Christian girls soccer

In a 6-0 win over Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal on Monday, the freshman had 5 goals.

Trent Callies, La Porte boys basketball

The junior had had a game-high 41 points and his 6 3-pointers, while adding five steals and six assists in a 69-50 win over Angleton on Friday.

D’Andre Charlot, Mt. Belvieu Barbers Hill boys basketball

During a game on Friday against Crosby, the junior surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career.

Jeremiah Cooper, Spring Westfield boys basketball

The 6-foot-8 junior had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds in a 50-39 win over Aldine Nimitz on Friday to clinch the District 14-6A title.

Cecilia Cogwin, Austin St. Dominic Savio Catholic girls track and field

The freshman won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash at the St. Dominic Savio Early Bird Relays on Feb. 10.

Luke Garrett, Flower Mound boys swimming

He won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle and was on the winning 200-yard medley relay team at the Region 2-6A Championship in Lewisville on Feb. 10.

Nate Jean, Justin Northwest boys wrestling

He went 4-0 to claim first place in the 165-pound bracket at the Region 2-5A tournament on Saturday and picked up his 100th win on Friday.

Chris Jones Jr., Pasadena Memorial boys basketball

The junior scored 34 points to help the Mavericks beat Channelview 78-47 in a District 22-6A game on Tuesday.

Gianna Jordan, Southlake Carroll girls basketball

The sophomore had 24 points while adding 15 rebounds in an 85-56 win over Trophy Club Byron Nelson on Tuesday.

Alma Lazo Cazares, Northside Sandra Day O’Connor girls track and field

The senior took first place in the 400-meter run (58.99) and 800-meter run (2:16.38) at the Boerne-Champion Charger Relays on Feb. 8.

Isaac Leach, New Braunfels boys soccer

Scored four goals in a 4-1 win over East Central.

Landon Marquez de la Plata, Sunnyvale boys soccer

The senior had his third straight hat trick game in a win over Caddo Mills on Feb. 7. He had 18 goals through 10 games.

Maggy Moreman, Skidmore-Tynan girls basketball

She hit 7 3-pointers and had 28 points in a win against Calallen on Friday. She has hit more than 100 3-pointers this season for the Ladycats.

Matthew Mascorro, Riviera Kaufer girls basketball

Had a big double-double with 19 points and 12 boards and pitched in six assists in a win over La Villa.

Jackson Moss, Dumas boys wrestling

He picked up a pair of wins at the Region 1-5A meet and secured his 100th career win on Friday for the Demons.

Brett Norton, Katy Seven Lakes boys basketball

The unsigned senior had 31 points to help the Spartans beat Katy Cinco Ranch, 89-66, and wrap up the district championship.

Me’Arah O’Neal, Bellaire Episcopal girls basketball

The daughter of NBA Hall of Fame Shaquille O’Neal, the senior led her squad to the Southwest Preparatory Conference Class 4A title on Saturday with 28 points in a 65-54 win over Houston The Kinkaid School. She has signed to play at Florida.

Luke Reder, Tomball Memorial boys basketball

The 6-foot-5 signee for Missouri Western State University had 30 points in a 72-65 victory over Spring Klein Cain on Friday.

Beau Rowland, Katy Cinco Ranch boys track and field

The senior won the 110- and 300-meter hurdles event during the Will Taylor Relays on Feb. 10 at Houston Memorial High School.

Tony Sanchez, Palestine boys soccer

The sophomore had a hat trick against Lufkin Hudson in a 10-2 win on Feb. 9. In a 6-0 win over Palestine Westwood on Tuesday, he had a goal and two assists.

Vonte’ Sanders, Sherman boys basketball

He had 28 points in a win over Denison on Tuesday to clinch a share of the District 13-5A title and on Friday he had 16 points in a win over Princeton, giving the Bearcats the first district title in 12 years.

Kenyan Valdez, Baytown Sterling boys basketball

In a 69-44 win over Port Neches-Groves on Tuesday, he had 22 points and 20 rebounds, a new school record for the Rangers.

Aaron Vargas, El Paso Eastlake boys basketball

He hit a buzzer-beating layup to lift the Falcons to a 43-41 win over El Paso El Dorado on Friday night.

Jordan Willis, Abilene Cooper boys basketball

The Cougars rallied from 12 points down in the third to beat Lubbock-Cooper on Friday. The senior guard led the way with 25 points.
