Angelo Ferrari wins another Texas high school state wrestling title

Iowa signee, nation's No. 1 ranked wrestler at 175 pounds closes book on prolific high school career

CYPRESS, Texas - Melissa High School’s Angelo Ferrari finished his prolific wrestling career in the finals four times in two different states — Oklahoma and Texas.

He ended his career with three titles, one in Oklahoma and wrapped up his second straight 175-pound title in the 5A finals on Saturday.

The Iowa signee finished with a 44-0 record this season and helped the Cardinals finished second in the team standings — the school’s highest ever finish.

The two titles in Texas matches what his older brother, A.J., accomplished at Allen High School before going to Oklahoma State.

The youngest of the three Ferrari brothers — who will all wrestle at Iowa next season — was ranked No. 1 at 175 in the SBLive national wrestling rankings.

“I embrace it every time I go out there, it pushes me in the wrestling room to be better every day,” Angelo said about being ranked highly. “It is awesome; I love it; I’d rather that then people not know me. Pressure is a privilege and I embrace it every time I wrestle.”

Ferrari won his finals match by a 27-12 technical fall and finished the tournament earning 29 1/2 of Melissa’s 93 1/2 points.
