Can Plano East continue undefeated season in UIL 6A regional quarterfinals?

Nationally ranked Plano East puts its undefeated season on the line with a ranked Texas high school boys basketball playoff showdown on Tuesday night.

The Panthers (35-0) face Allen (32-5) in the UIL 6A Region 1 and 2 quarterfinals at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland in a rematch of each team's season opener.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (central time) and the game will be streamed live on the NFHS Network (subscription required). The winner faces the winner of Frenship and Eaton — which also tips at 7 — in the regional semifinals. 

Plano East, the No. 14 ranked team in the nation (SBLive/SI) and No. 2 team in Texas, toppled Allen in its season opener in November.

-- Plano East proved one thing in spades as its pulled away from a talent-laden Allen on Tuesday night: The 36-0 Panthers are a buzzsaw. DJ Hall and Xavier Miller have 17 points apiece to help Plano East pull away in the fourth quarter for a 27-point win. 

-- Trent Pane finished with a team-high 17 points for Allen.

-- Plano East pull away in the fourth and shows why it's one of the best teams in the country, sending Allen home with a 32-6 record. 

-- Ping. Pong. DJ Thomas rips a deep 3 for Allen, then Plano East flips the ball ahead for a fast-break dunk in rapid succession to achieve its largest lead of the game, 74-52.

-- Rachard Angton finds an open corner and the lefty cashes home a catch-and-shoot 3 to push Plano East's lead to 20.

-- Plano East showing why it's nationally ranked. Moves the ball on a poised possession, waits for the right look and converts. 

-- Deandre Thomas, a 6-foot-7 junior, covers a ton of ground laterally and vertically as he emphatically rejects a shot off the backboard. 

-- Antoine Shannon fouls out and this one is turning out to be much more frenetic and entertaining than it ever has been close. The Eagles are playing like their season is on the line. 

-- Allen steals a baseline inbound thanks to its full-court press and Nehemiah Lawrence leaks out to the corner and splashes home a 3. (58-46, Plano East | mid 4Q)

-- Narit Chotikavanic drains a long catch-and-shoot 3 and Plano East pushes the Panthers' lead back to 12. Plano East is hoping to fend off Allen and Father Time will soon step in if the Eagles don't cut it to single-digits. (55-43, Plano East | early 4Q)

-- What a sequence. An Allen guard took a baseline inbound coast-to-coast through a press and appeared to have an open layup, until Trent Pane pinned it off the backboard from behind. Allen flipped the ball ahead to a Shannon 3. That enlivens an energetic crowd. (47-33, Plano East | late 3Q)

-- Trent Pane has been fantastic — he steps into another deep 3 and is helping Allen chip away at the Panthers' double-digit lead. (43-28, Plano East | mid 3Q)

-- Antoine Shannon steps into a 3 and splashes it with a defender closing out, then junior guard Trent Payne his another 3 to pull Allen within 14. (39-25, mid 3Q)

-- DJ Hall goes into flex mode. The bruising 6-foot-7, 220-pound junior forward scores at the rim through contact and converts the three-point play for his 16th point. On the next possession, Xavier Miller converts another three-point play two minutes into the third quarter to push the Panthers' lead back up to 20. (39-19, Plano East | early)

-- Nice hustle sequence from Allen senior guard Kaiden Myers, who hits the deck for the offensive rebound, gets the ball back in the corner and draws free throws to push his total to six points.

-- The Eagles come up short on the first possession of the second half and play is back underway.

FIRST HALF

-- Plano East has won games by more than 20 points per game this season on its undefeated run, and leads by 16 — 33-17 — at the half thanks to a 20-point second quarter.
