Who was the top high school athlete in Texas last week?

Throughout the year, SBLive takes a look at the top high school athletes across the Lone Star State each week, gathering the top performers and putting the best of the best up for reader vote.

Congratulations to Lamar Fulshear girls swimming standout Kailey Kennedy for winning SBLive's Texas Athlete of the Week poll for Feb. 19-24. She received more than 50 percent of the more than 30,000 votes cast.

TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES

Jacy Abii, Frisco Liberty girls basketball

The sophomore was the Class 5A finals MVP after scoring 30 points and grabbing 12 points in a win over Mansfield Timberview on Saturday. She had 17 points and 18 rebounds in the semifinal victory.

Sadie Beck, Keller softball

The Tarleton State signee threw a 1-hitter on Tuesday, striking out 13 for the Indians in a 1-0 win over Mansfield Lake Ridge.

Alec Belter, League City Clear Springs boys basketball

The 6-foot-5 combo guard had 25 points and 6 rebounds to help the Chargers pick up a 55-50 win over C.E. King on Monday.

Zach Brown, Amarillo boys basketball

The Sandies will return to the state semifinals after a 51-40 win over El Paso Chapin on Saturday. Brown led his squad with 22 points in the win.

Jordan Bustamante, Edinburg Robert Vela boys basketball

The 6-foot-1 sophomore contributed 16 points coming in off the bench to help the SaberCats beat Sharyland Pioneer, 63-41, in a Class 5A playoff game on Tuesday.

Griffin Cawley, Austin James Bowie boys soccer

The senior accounted for four of the Bulldogs' five goals in a victory over Austin Akins Early College on Saturday. 

Javen Colbert, Decatur boys basketball

He helped the Eagles pick up a 70-56 win over Lubbock Estacado on Friday by scoring 44 points in the area championship game.

Mariah Clayton, Duncanville girls basketball

She had 18 points in a semifinal win against Humble Summer Creek on Friday and followed up with 19 points and 9 rebounds in the finals against South Grand Prairie on Saturday.

Izaac DeJesus, Diboll baseball

The Austin College signee there a complete game effort and gave up one run on four hits to help the Lumberjacks beat No. 6-ranked Garrison on Friday, 7-1.

Mattie Dollar, Newcastle girls basketball

She picked up the Class 1A MVP honors after scoring 24 points in a 48-32 win over Turkey Valley on Saturday in the championship game.

Hayden Drumm, Nazareth boys basketball

He had 25 points in a 55-43 win over Texline on Monday and the Switfs topped Whithharral on Friday behind his 30-point effort in an 81-53 win in a Class 1 playoff game.

Bethany Grandgeorge, Beckville softball

In a 14-3 win over White Oak on Monday, she went 4-for-5 with a home run and drove in three runs for the Lady Bearcats.

Kasen Hastings, Krum boys basketball

The Southwestern College signee had a team-high 15 points to help Krum secure its first regional quarterfinal berth in tournament 2000 with a 52-41 win over Wichita Falls Hirschi on Tuesday

Logan Holloway, North Richland Hills Richland girls soccer

The junior forward had a hat trick on Tuesday in the Royals’ 7-0 win over Lake Dallas.

Jayden Keys, Katy Tompkins boys track and field

The senior jumped 24-7 1/4 to set a meet record and clocked a meet record in the 300-meter hurdles at the Bluebonnet Invitational on Saturday in College Station.

Cooper Lutkenhaus, Justin Northwest boys track and field

He ran a school-record 48.25 in the 400-meter dash at the Northwest Texan Invitational on Friday in Justin. The freshman also won the 200-meter dash

Amir McMillan, Mansfield Lake Ridge boys basketball

After losing twice to Waxahachie in the regular season, Lake Ridge won 78-63 in a 6A playoff game on Monday. The senior guard had a team-high 20 points.

Jarod Mosely, Houston St. Thomas Episcopal boys basketball

The senior helped the Saints win the TAPPS 4A championship on Saturday with a 56-49 win on Saturday against Arlington Grace Prep. he led his squad with 18 points.

Jaylee Moss, Canyon girls basketball

She set a Class 4A record with seven 3-pointers and had a game-high 26 points to help the Lady Eagles beat Boerne in a semifinal game on Friday in San Antonio.

Kara Nixon, Martin’s Mill girls basketball

The freshman guard scored the game-winning bucket in a 44-42 win over Nocona on Saturday to win the Class 2A state championship.

Doryan Onwuchekwa, Dallas Oak Cliff Faith Family boys basketball

The center, a four-star recruit who recently decommitted from Colorado, had 19 points to help the Eagles beat Frisco Panther Creek, 88-46, on Tuesday.

Kiyleyah Parr, Waco La Vega girls basketball

The Wichita State signee had 21 points with 4 assists and 8 steals to help the Pirates win the Class 4A title for the second year in a row on Saturday.

Steven Ramirez, Keller boys basketball

His dunk helped seal a 71-66 upset win over No. 3-ranked North Crowley on Tuesday. Ramirez hit 4 3-pointers and finished with 28 points.

Claire Schreiner, Frisco Wakeland softball

The junior catcher hit a walk-off grand slam on Tuesday to propel the Wolverines to an 8-7 victory over McKinney.

Mason Shephard, Rockwall boys basketball

The freshman drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Yellowjackets to a 54-51 win over Wylie East on Tuesday. He had 21 points in the victory.

Chloe Sirkin, Grapevine girls golf

She shot a 141 — a 3-under par — to take first place at the Lady Pirate Invitational in Granbury on Friday and Saturday.

Dakari Spear, Lewisville The Colony boys basketball

The sophomore had 31 points and helped the Cougars rally from an early deficit to beat Longview, 60-58, on Saturday in a 5A playoff game.

Alexis Taylor, Frisco Panther Creek softball

The Texas-Permian Basin signee threw a perfect game no-hitter against Frisco on Tuesday, striking out 10 in 5 innings.

Dylan Turner, San Antonio Thomas C. Clark baseball

The junior went 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs and scored twice to help the Cougars pick up a 13-4 win over San Antonio Marshall on Wednesday.

Keelie Williams, Shallowater girls basketball

She hit a pair of 3-pointers late in overtime and had a game-high 13 points to help Mustangs beat Huntington, 54-49, in overtime in the 3A finals.

Jade Williams, Huffman Hargrave girls track and field

The senior won the 100-meter hurdles (15.53) and was second in the 300-meter hurdles at the Ed Taylor Invitational on March 1 at Beaumont United High School.
