Photos: Jayton beats Benjamin for first Texas (UIL) high school state basketball championship
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Grayson Rigdon and Benjamin's shot at small-school Texas high school history fell short on Saturday.
Three players notched double-digit scoring as Jayton held off UIL Class 1A phenom Grayson Rigdon and Benjamin to win its first state title on Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
In a back-and-forth game with 12 lead changes, Benjamin stayed within two possessions into the game's final moments — until Sean Stanaland took a steal coast-to-coast and scored with three seconds left to put the game away.

Colt Gentry led the Jaybirds with 19 points, Ayden Salazar and Stanaland chipped in 14 apiece for Jayton.
Rigdon, who entered the game averaging 47 points per game, finished with 32 points for the second time in three days, and chipped in nine boards, three assists and a pair of steals as well.
Benjamin falls short of becoming the first UIL Class 1A school to win a football and basketball state title in the same academic year after Rigdon led Benjamin past Oglesby in AT&T Stadium in December.
