TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
DJ Barnes, Shelbyville boys basketball
He guided the Dragons to the 2A finals after tallying 23 points in the semifinal victory against Thrall and led his team with 14 points in the finals on Saturday.
Dillon Battie, Lancaster boys basketball
The 6-foot-8 senior was named the MVP of the 5A championship game after scoring 17 points and grabbing 19 rebounds in a victory on Saturday against Killeen Ellison. The Temple signee scored 30 points in two games in San Antonio.
Jacob Bell, Hutto boys soccer
The junior accounted for three goals on three shots in the Hippos’ 4-0 win over Copperas Cove on Tuesday.
Audrey Bryant, Dallas Ursuline Academy girls soccer
The junior recorded a hat trick to help Ursuline win a second straight TAPPS Division I championship over Dallas Bishop Lynch on Wednesday in Round Rock. She’s committed to play for Texas.
Savannah Carter, Spring Klein Collins softball
A week after breaking the school record for strikeouts, the Texas State pledge threw a 1-hitter and fanned 9 in a 1-0 win over Tomball Memorial on Tuesday.
Carter Eddy, Ponder boys basketball
The senior hit 6 of 10 shots from the field and finished with 18 points to help the Lions advance to the Class 3A championship game.
Bella Flores, Humble Kingwood girls golf
The Lady Mustangs had a 1-2 finish with Flores taking medalist honors and Chloe Jones tying for second at the Kingwood Invitational on Saturday.
Leija Folauo’o, Frisco softball
The Raccoons hammered Carrollton Newman Smith on Tuesday behind the freshman’s standout game. She struck out 16 and gave up three hits, while going 6-for-6 with 6 RBIs at the plate with a home run, double and a triple.
Court Gaylor, Lipan boys basketball
The Indians' freshman point guard was named the 2A MVP of the championship game after leading Lipan to a win over Shelbyville with 23 points. He had 27 points in a semifinal victory.
Colt Gentry, Jayton boys basketball
The Jaybirds won the school’s first-ever state championship in basketball on Saturday and the sophomore had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the win over Benjamin. He was named the 1A MVP for his efforts.
DJ Hall, Plano East boys basketball
The junior tallied 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting and added 6 rebounds to help the Panthers win the 6A title with a 40-0 record.
Jared Harris, Silsbee boys basketball
The Memphis signee had a team-high 21 points in the championship game for the Tigers. He also had 21 in the semifinal win against Canyon Randall.
Damien McDaniel, Hitchcock boys basketball
The UNLV football signee had 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals on his way to earning MVP honors in the 3A championship game on Saturday. He helped the Bulldogs repeat as a state champion.
Ahziel McIver, Killeen Ellison boys basketball
The Eagles got a game-high 23 points from the junior guard in a 59-47 win in the semifinal victory over San Antonio Veterans Memorial on Thursday.
Josiah Moseley, Round Rock Stony Point boys basketball
The Villanova signee had 19 points in a semifinal win over Beaumont United and added 18 in the 6A finals.
Taylor Nunez, Universal City Randolph girls track and field
The junior won both the 100-meter (11.64) and 200-meter dash (23.49), while adding a first in the long jump (19-8 3/4) on Saturday at the Canyon Cougar Relays in New Braunfels.
Dane Perry, Friendswood baseball
The New Mexico State pledge went 3-for-4 with 6 RBIs to help the Mustangs down Pearland Shadow Creek on Thursday. On Saturday, he posted a 2-for-4 line with 4 RBIs in a 17-11 win over Fort Bend Elkins.
Grayson Rigdon, Benjamin boys basketball
The 5-foot-10 guard had 32 points to help the Mustangs reach the 1A championship game on Thursday. He followed up with 32 more in the championship game, a 60-53 loss to Jayton.
Cesa Sabillon, Tyler Grace Community girls soccer
She helped her squad win the TAPPS Division II title on Wednesday with a PK in a 5-3 win. She also had a game-winner in a 3-2 double overtime win over Austin Regents in the semifinals.
Brooks Simmons, Dallas Highland Park boys golf
The Texas pledge shot a 3-over 141 to take first on Saturday at the San Angelo Classic.
Ava Thompson, McKinney Christian Academy girls soccer
The TAPPS Division III title went to McKinney Christian Academy after the senior scored all of her team’s goals in a 3-1 win over previously unbeaten Boerne Geneva on Wednesday in Round Rock.
Kaelyn Trevino, Lubbock softball
In a 17-1 win over Lubbock Estacado on Tuesday, she hit for the cycle with a home run in the first, a triple in the fourth, a single in the fourth and a double in the fifth inning.
Tyler Westrom, Argyle boys track and field
The Abilene Christian signee took first in the 1,600-meter run (4:26.29) and won the 3,200-meter run (9:14.61) on Friday at the Byron Nelson Invitational in Trophy Club.
Isaac Williams, Dallas South Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy boys basketball
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi signee had 32 points in the Class 4 finals, including a perfect 14-for-14 from the field shooting.
Ashley York, Bellaire girls soccer
The senior had her second hat trick in a 3-game span to help Bellaire pick up a 5-0 win over Houston Cesar E. Chavez on Tuesday. She now has 19 goals this season.
