Carthage rolls to 56-13 win over Krum in Texas high school football playoff game: Live update recap

The Area round of the Texas high school football playoffs kicks off Thursday, November 21, and one of the games to watch is Carthage vs. Krum.

Carthage (10-1) is one of the favorites in 4A, boasting nine state titles and10 title game appearances.

But the Bulldogs will have to get past Krum (9-2) to keep their postseason dreams alive in 2024.

The winner moves on to face Texarkana Pleasant Grove. The Hawks beat Farmersville, 63-7, on Thursday.

1ST QUARTER

Krum gets the ball first to start this game.

INTERCEPTION! The first drive ends on an interception by Trey Gant. The Carthage DB takes it back to the Krum 18-yard line. 9:38 left in 1st

TOUCHDOWN CARTHAGE! KJ Edwards runs for a 7-yard touchdown on his first carry after missing two games. Carthage up 7-0 with 9:03

TOUCHDOWN CARTHAGE! Jett Surratt throws a 64-yard swing pass to Edwards, who gets tackled at the 2-yard line. On the next play, Edwards scores. Carthage up 14-0 with 7:34 to play.

Carthage facing 4th-and-4 from the 15. Timeout by the Bulldogs with 2:57 on the clock in the 1st quarter.

TURNOVER: Carthage convert on 4th down, but two plays later a bad snap leads to a 13-yard loss. Krum recovers. 2:40 left. Bridger Murray recovers for the Bobcats.

Bulldogs force Krum to punt again, takes over at own 38.

TOUCHDOWN CARTHAGE! Surratt connects with Junior Henderson for a 23-yard touchdown with 4 seconds left in the first quarter. Carthage up 21-0.

END OF 1ST QUARTER: Carthage 21, Krum 0

2ND QUARTER

TOUCHDOWN CARTHAGE! Edwards with another big run. His 52-yard score comes at the 10:11 mark. The Bulldogs are now up 28-0.

TOUCHDOWN CARTHAGE! Surratt to Henderson again. This time a slant from 8 yards. The Bulldogs are doing pretty much whatever they want. 35-0 now with 5:21 left in 2nd.

TURNOVER! Krum goes deep and Jaydon Lewis picks it off at the 9-yard line. Bulldogs get the ball back with 4:05 left, deep in their own territory.

TOUCHDOWN CARTHAGE! Another big run by Edwards. He takes the carry and runs 75 yards for a score with 3:10 left. The turnover turns into 7 points and Carthage up 42-0.

TOUCHDOWN CARTHAGE! Junior Henderson with 3rd touchdown of the night. Surratt with a 4-yard pass with 16 seconds left. 49-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

HALFTIME: Carthage 49, Krum 0

3RD QUARTER

Carthage to get the ball to open the 2nd half. Mostly backups in for the Bulldogs.

KRUM TOUCHDOWN! Ty Taber throws a 33-yard touchdown to Lane Larson with 6:45 left to get Bobcats on the board. Carthage still up 49-7.

TURNOVER! Carthage fumbles and Krum picks it up at the 50

TOUCHDOWN KRUM! On the first play, Taber throws to Larson again. The 50-yard score makes it 49-13. PAT is no good. 3:14 left in 3rd — but clocking is rolling.

4TH QUARTER

TOUCHDOWN CARTHAGE! Backup QB Kason Burchette hits freshman Kandon Harris for a score with 10:16 left in 4th. Carthage extends lead to 55-13.

TURNOVER! Carthage gets another interception. This one at the goal line to stop the drive for Krum. Less than 2 minutes to play

FINAL: Carthage 56, Krum 13

Next week, Carthage plays Texarkana Pleasant Grove for the 7th year in a row. Bulldogs have won the past 6 meetings.

Krum finishes year 9-3 overall. This was the most points the Bobcats have given up since 56 against Ponder in 2022.
