Photos: Arizona State-bound Caden Vire tosses one-hitter, Seth Minor completes cycle as Skyview beats Camas baseball 4-0
CAMAS — Arizona State signee Caden Vire threw a one-hit, 12-strikeout complete game to lead Skyview past Camas 4-0 on Monday afternoon at Camas High School.
Skyview junior Seth Minor went 4 for 4 and hit for the cycle, blasting a single, home run, double and a triple.
"Give Vire credit man, there's a fair chance we'll see him on TV one of these days," Camas coach Steve Short said.
Minor hit a solo home run in the first inning off of Camas sophomore Boston Jensen, a 6-4 right handed Washington State commit. The Storm sent two more runs home in the top of the fourth to pull ahead 3-0, first on a Kyle Memarian ground ball single to right field. Minor then drove in Memarian with a double on the next at-bat.
Vire, a 6-foot-6 left-handed pitcher, walked two in the bottom of the fifth, but closed out the inning by striking out sophomore Jake Swenson.
After Camas senior Jake Blair opened the bottom of the sixth with the lone hit on Vire — a single to center field in the bottom of the sixth (three days removed from Blair undergoing wisdom teeth surgery) — the Storm closed out the inning with a double play and another Vire strikeout. Scouts in attendance clocked Vire's fastball around 87-88 miles per hour. He peaked at 91.
"The double play really helped me, rejuvenated me, so I have to thank my middle infielders and my whole defense," Vire said. "Probably the best feeling I've had playing baseball, if I'm being honest."
Skyview (3-0) is atop the 4A/3A Greater St. Helens League standings. The Papermakers are 2-1.
