HOW THE TOP 25 FARED — NOV. 6
1. GRAHAM-KAPOWSIN EAGLES 10-0 (4A) beat Federal Way, 63-6
QB Joshua Wood ties season high with four touchdown passes in first quarter - and career-high with five in first half. Must be playoff time in Graham.
2. LAKE STEVENS VIKINGS 8-0 (4A) beat Emerald Ridge, 63-21 (Sat.)
For much of the first half, visitors went toe to toe (down 28-21) with the 4A Wesco champions. Then Vikings score 35 unanswered points in final 25 minutes.
3. GONZAGA PREP BULLPUPS 9-0 (4A) beat Chiawana, 34-14
Bullpups move on to Class 4A state playoffs with ease - and in process, end frustrating career of UCLA-bound QB JP Zamora (three first-half interceptions).
4. BELLEVUE WOLVERINES 10-0 (3A) beat Southridge, 42-0
Suns coach (and ex-Tumwater standout) Matt Johnson said team was facing one of the "gold standards" of Wing-T offense. Wolverines added value to currency.
5. YELM TORNADOS 9-0 (3A) beat Mead, 37-21 (Sat.)
Lost in the ball-handling miscues (five turnovers) - and two Panthers' defensive scores - is the fact the Tornados' defense held Mead to just 53 total yards.
6. KAMIAKIN BRAVES 10-0 (4A) beat Lewis & Clark, 48-3 (Sat.)
RB Luis Salgado gets it rolling with three first-quarter rushing touchdowns, and the Braves clinch their first 4A state playoff berth since 2009.
7. EASTLAKE WOLVES 10-0 (4A) beat Curtis, 49-14
QB Parker Barrysmith (184 passing yards, five TDs) certainly showed no shaky nerves in his first postseason start, leading the 4A KingCo champions to a victory.
8. KENNEWICK LIONS 9-1 (3A) beat Timberline, 28-7 (Sat.)
All-state RB Myles Mayovsky was not going to be denied. He breaks open 7-7 fourth-quarter deadlock with three touchdown runs in final nine minutes.
9. SUMNER SPARTANS9-1 (4A) beat Tahoma, 59-21
It was RB Eric Buck's turn (154 rushing yards, four TDs) to be the backfield bear for the Spartans, who tallied 31 unanswered points to topple Tahoma.
10. TUMWATER THUNDERBIRDS 7-2 (2A) beat Columbia River, 62-14
WR Ashton Paine took the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, and the 2A champions grabbed control quickly, scoring in all three phases.
11. MARYSVILLE-PILCHUCK TOMAHAWKS 9-1 (3A) beat Bishop Blanchet, 62-28
No team in the state got out faster Friday as Tomahawks score 41 first-quarter points, ride RB Dylan Carson (156 rushing yards, four TDs) to comfortable victory.
12. EASTSIDE CATHOLIC CRUSADERS 7-1 (3A) beat Juanita, 42-0
A cornerback invasion! Ambrose Marsh returned two blocked punts for scores, and Tyson Weaver brought back an interception 56 yards for a touchdown.
13. O’DEA FIGHTING IRISH 6-2 (3A) beat Auburn, 48-8
Irish make it five state trips in a row as RBs Jason Brown (226 rushing yards, four TDs) and Khalil Holiday (166 yards, two TDs) lead offensive field day (526 yards).
14. CAMAS PAPERMAKERS 6-4 (4A) beat Mount Rainier, 57-20
Reigning 4A champions now undefeated (6-0) against the state of Washington as RB Jon Schultz busts loose for a career-high 223 rushing yards and three scores.
15. BOTHELL COUGARS 9-1 (4A) beat Bellarmine Prep, 24-6 (Sat.)
It's encouraging that QB Logan Lacio was able to return to the lineup, but it's also plainly obvious that it's the defense carrying the Cougars' playoff fate
16. LINCOLN OF TACOMA 6-3 (3A) loses to Stanwood, 40-35
Shockingly, Abes' eight-year run of making the state playoffs ends. Couldn't stop Stanwood's Wing-T run game (431 yards), especially RB Ryder Bumgarner (279).
17. GLACIER PEAK GRIZZLIES 7-2 (4A) beat Skyline, 49-21
Finally, the Grizzlies break through for first 4A state berth. Defense did most damage, including two scores (Jacob Erickson's fumble return, Ashton Olson's pick-6).
18. MOUNT SPOKANE WILDCATS 7-2 (3A) beat Gig Harbor, 20-0 (Sat.)
That is five shutout victories this fall for the 3A GSL's top seed, who notched five sacks and three interceptions, including Aiden Prado's return for a touchdown.
19. SPANAWAY LAKE SENTINELS 5-1 (3A) beat Liberty of Issaquah, 41-6 (Sat.)
RB Joshua Collie (three first-half TD runs) will be a force in this offense moving forward as Sentinels exploded for a number of big scoring plays in rout.
20. ROYAL KNIGHTS 10-0 (1A) beat Naches Valley, 55-0
Wash, rinse - repeat! Knights roll up 403 total yards, led by RB Avery Ellis (132 rushing yards, three TDs). And the defense holds Naches to minus-19 rushing yards.
21. ARLINGTON EAGLES 8-1 (3A) beat Auburn Mountainview, 35-0
It's more than just the magic arm of QB Trent Nobach. Defense gets after it - and flustered Lions (94 yards, three turnovers), including Ethan Martin's 75-yard score.
22. RAINIER BEACH VIKINGS 5-2 (3A) beat Snohomish, 28-14 (Sat.)
Vikings race out to 20-0 lead on QB Chance Guadiz's second touchdown pass (32 yards to Caleb Presley) in first 15 minutes - and then put it in cruise control.
23. NORTH KITSAP VIKINGS 10-0 (2A) beat Renton, 42-7
Dinged-up QB Colton Bower (127 passing yards, two TDs) made a brief appearance - one quarter - but got plenty of help as Vikings roll right to state playoffs.
24. PUYALLUP VIKINGS 8-2 (4A) beat Mount Si, 35-14 (Sat.)
Very much deja vu for DB Donte Grant in the third quarter. He has identical 68-yard interception returns for scores five minutes apart to blow game wide open.
25. RICHLAND BOMBERS 8-2 (4A) beat Central Valley, 21-10
When things go awry, Bombers can always rely on defense - and DE Elijah Rodriguez set tone early with a pair of sacks, two more tackles for loss in victory.
