4 Washington high school football players who could move into Top 20 recruiting rankings with big senior seasons
For the better part of a year, the same names from the class of 2024 in Washington high school football recruiting remain at the top.
Yelm's Brayden Platt is the highest-graded senior, according to 247Sports.com - followed by Bellevue's Hogan Hansen and the O'Dea duo of Jason Brown Jr. and Isendre Ahfua (their rankings will be updated in August).
But what players could catch fire and crack the top 20 with strong finishes to summer football - and a big senior season?
Here are four names 247Sports.com national recruiting editor Brandon Huffman is high on making a big push in the coming months.
GIO KAFENTZIS, Emerald Ridge
Current ranking: Unranked (not in top 45).
Skinny: His exclusion has as much to do with his injury history as anything - especially last November when he broke his foot in the Jaguars' Class 4A quarterfinal victory at Chiawana. Has the skill set to play all over - linebacker, safety and slot receiver - and just recently was offered by Nevada. "He's a very instinctual player," Huffman said.
Ceiling: Sneaking inside top 20.
TYSON BROWN, Bothell
Current ranking: No. 43.
Skinny: Again, another teenager plagued by health issues, missing all of last season with a shoulder injury. But now fully back, he's flashed that playmaking instinct at inside linebacker that intrigues recruiters to go along with the good frame (6-3, 220). "He's a quarterback by trade, so he has high football knowledge," Huffman said.
Ceiling: Sneaking inside top 20.
BRYSON ROSS, Eastside Catholic
Current ranking: No. 29.
Skinny: It's a tough deal hunting publicity in the Crusaders' secondary when the likes of Tyson Weaver and Ambrose Marsh are around. But this lanky 6-foot-3, 190-pound cornerback (who projects as a safety long term) has been a standout during the offseason circuit, wrapping on defensive back most valuable player honors at the Avery Strong Showcase. "He can make a jump," Huffman said.
ARTHUR BAN, Evergreen of Vancouver
Current ranking: No. 21.
Skinny: Doesn't have a long way to go to be a top-20 player, and this longtime basketball player-turned-tight end has flashed tantalizing upside this offseason as an unstoppable pass catcher. Was a standout at the Northwest Showcase and received an immediate offer from San Diego State, where he committed to in June. "Evergreen has a lot of talent, and he could have a big year," Huffman said.
Ceiling: Near top 15.
