GAME RECAPS

CLASS 1A GIRLS

BELLEVUE CHRISTIAN 50, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 34

The Vikings extended their current winning streak to 17 games and secured the 1A West Central District title with a double-digit win over league rival Cascade Christian.

Bellevue Christian, which won an undefeated 1A Nisqually League title earlier this winter, never trailed in the contest, leading throughout following Kiana Skogstad’s floater less than 30 seconds into the game.

The Cougars kept the lead within single digits during the first half, and cut it as close as two midway through the third, but Bellevue Christian closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to extend the lead to double digits. The Vikings’ lead reached as many as 18 points in the fourth.

Skogstad led all scorers with 13 points, while Eve Henry (11) and Rocklyn Osborn (10) also finished in double figures for Bellevue Christian. Alisa Scott and Brooklyn Whittington each had eight to pace Cascade Christian.

Both the Vikings (22-1) and Cougars (16-7) advance to next week’s state regional round.

CLASS 1A BOYS

ANNIE WRIGHT 72, BELLEVUE CHRISTIAN 49

Three Gators reached double digits scoring and Annie Wright cruised to a second consecutive 1A West Central District title with a convincing 23-point victory over Bellevue Christian.

Annie Wright (21-2), which also closed out back-to-back undefeated 1A Nisqually League titles earlier this season, enters next week’s state playoffs on a 14-game winning streak and without an in-state loss.

“We got back-to-back district championships, that felt good, but that’s not our main goal,” Gators guard Jeremiah Harshman said. “We want to play all the way through to March 2. So, we’re happy about this, but we’ve got more to do.”

The Gators never trailed Saturday morning, taking the game’s only lead on a Martin Kaupanger dunk 47 seconds into the contest. Kaupanger added a second dunk later in the quarter, and finished with 18 points.

Harshman also scored 18, including hitting two buzzer-beating 3-pointers at the end of the first and second quarters, giving the Gators a 20-point advantage by the halftime break.

“When you’re a little kid you always count down from five … so I’ve always just practiced that since I was young,” Harshman said of the two long triples.

Amare Breedlove added 14 for the Gators, and Reggie Lester had nine.

Carter Calkin led Bellevue Christian (14-9) with 14 points, while Edison Kan had nine.

CLASS 2A GIRLS

WHITE RIVER 48, SAMMAMISH 29

The Hornets captured their first district crown since 2018, building their lead as high as 24 points in the second half of Saturday afternoon’s 2A District 2/3 championship win over Sammamish.

White River took the lead for good on a Josie Jacobs basket with 32 seconds left in the first quarter, and went on a 17-2 run in the second to lead by double digits the rest of the way.

And this less than 17 hours after the Hornets wrapped up their semifinals victory over rival Enumclaw

“We’ve worked so hard," Jacobs said. "There’s seven of us seniors, and we just wanted it so bad.”

Jacobs led all scorers with 13 points, while Maggee Schmitz had nine and Dakota Sprouse added eight.

White River’s limited Sammamish to 10-of-44 (22.7 percent) shooting from the floor, and collected 13 steals.

What worked so well on the defensive end?

“I think just our ball pressure, and we’re always moving and talking to each other, and just getting through screens and everything,” said Jacobs, who added a team-high six rebounds and four steals.

Sophia Eastman led Sammamish (16-7), this year’s undefeated 2A KingCo champion, with seven points, while Tezi Lyons had six and 15 rebounds.

White River (20-3), which also won an undefeated 2A SPSL title this season, enters next week’s regionals on a 10-game winning streak.

CLASS 2A BOYS

RENTON 75, NORTH KITSAP 74 (OT)

Trailing by one point in the closing moments of overtime, Renton in-bounded the ball with 3.1 seconds to play, found Jordan Agosto in the far corner, and the junior guard hit the game-winning 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded to lift his team to a second consecutive 2A District 2/3 title.

“It was huge,” Agosto said. “We needed that. That’s two times in a row. We needed that.”

Saturday afternoon’s thriller featured 35 ties or lead changes. Renton led, 37-31, at the halftime break, and 53-50 at the end of the third quarter on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Dennis Johnson behind the half court line.

But, North Kitsap evened the score at 67-67 by the end of regulation on Cade Orness’ 3-pointer with 1:07 to go.

There were seven lead changes in the overtime period. North Kitsap led by two with 7.5 seconds to play following a basket by Orness, but Agosto responded with the game-winner moments later.

“Man, that gives us a lot of confidence, momentum because we see what we just did right now and we can do it again,” Agosto said of the win.

Agosto was one of four players in double figures scoring for Renton with 11. Johnson scored a team-high 18, while Marques Ili-Meneese Ili had 16 and Micah Ili-Meneese Ili added 12.

Orness paced North Kitsap with a game-high 30 points, while Harry Davies had 28 and Jordan Williams added 12.

Renton (18-6), also this season’s 2A KingCo champion, enters next week’s state regionals on a 10-game winning streak. Saturday’s loss snapped what was a 15-game winning streak for undefeated 2A Olympic League champion North Kitsap (20-4).

CLASS 4A GIRLS

CAMAS 63, BELLARMINE PREP 44

The Papermakers combined for nine 3-pointers and led by as many as 22 in the second half in Saturday evening’s win over Bellarmine Prep.

Camas (18-6), the undefeated 4A GSHL champions, secured a second consecutive 4A District 3/4 title with the victory.

“You don’t really realize it in the moment, but back-to-back district championships is just huge,” Papermakers guard Riley Sanz said.

Sanz led all scorers with 14 points, and was one of three Papermakers in double figures for a Camas offense that was efficient moving the ball inside as well as shooting from the perimeter.

“It’s really fun,” Sanz said. “That’s just what our goals are. We move the ball, we work as a team.”

Addison Harris added 12 points for Camas, while Reagan Jamison had 10 and Parker Mairs scored nine on three 3-pointers.

Jada Travis had 12 points for the Lions, while Teagan Ellington also had 12 on four 3-pointers.

Bellarmine (17-8) was the third consecutive 4A SPSL team Camas upended on the way to the district title. The Papermakers also bested Emerald Ridge and Sumner in the first two rounds.

Camas (18-6) enters next week’s regionals on a 10-game winning streak, and remains undefeated against in-state teams at 14-0.

CLASS 4A BOYS

TAHOMA 74, KENTWOOD 56

Dalton Brown poured in a game-high 29 points and Tahoma ran away from league rival Kentwood late to secure the first district title in program history.

“It means a lot,” Brown said. “We’re all happy to be here, and there’s more to come.”

The two teams traded the lead several times in the first, but the Bears (19-5) ended the quarter on a 7-0 run, and led the rest of the way.

They took a 40-30 advantage into the halftime break, and extended the lead as high as 20 points in the fourth quarter behind an offense that shot better than 60 percent from the floor.

“I think our size helped a lot, and moving the ball a lot,” Brown said.

Jayden Stephens (19 points) and Adam Davis (10) also finished in double figures scoring for the Bears.

Brandon Tagle led Kentwood with 18 points, while Mason St. Louis had 17 and Corey Tita had 11.

Tahoma, this year’s 4A NPSL champion, enters next week’s regional round on a six-game winning streak, looking to advance to the Tacoma Dome for a third consecutive season. The loss snaps a seven-game winning streak for Kentwood (19-6), which also advances to the state regionals.

CLASS 3A GIRLS

AUBURN 61, NORTH THURSTON 45

Auburn outscored North Thurston, 16-4, in the final quarter to run away with a victory Saturday evening in the 3A District 3/4 title game, and secure the program’s first district championship since 1992.

“Awesome,” Auburn coach Jessica Hansen said. “We told them, we were looking in the gym, and we’re like, ‘We have a huge opportunity to put another banner on the wall.’”

“It’s crazy,” forward Emmalee Secrest said. “We all know we’re making history with this team. It’s a brand new team from last season, and it’s just been a great ride.”

The Trojans never trailed in the contest, but had to hold off several North Thurston rallies trough the first three quarters before finally breaking away with a double-digit lead midway through the fourth.

After the Rams tied the score at 41-41 with less than a minute left in the third, Auburn closed on a 20-4 run, and allowed only two North Thurston baskets the rest of the way.

Secrest led all scorers with 19 points, while Avery Hansen had 13, Jaylah Brown added 10 and Kenzie Hinson had nine.

Soraya Ogaldez was the only scorer in double figures for North Thurston with 17.

The undefeated 3A SSC champion Rams dropped their first loss of the season in the contest after entering the game at 19-0.

Auburn (24-1), the undefeated 3A NPSL champion, enters next week’s state regionals on a 15-game winning streak, and with only one in-state loss.

“It gives us a lot of momentum knowing we can compete with those high-level teams,” Secrest said.

CLASS 3A BOYS

AUBURN 56, NORTH THURSTON 40

After trailing much of the first half, and at the break, Auburn went on a 21-0 run to open the third quarter, and ran away from North Thurston to capture the program’s third consecutive 3A District 3/4 title late Saturday night.

“It’s been incredible,” coach Ryan Hansen said of Auburn’s run of success in recent years. “It’s really a testament to the players that I’ve had that have bought into everything that we try to teach them.

“Just winners, man. We’ve been in a lot of different situations, and these kids just keep finding ways to win basketball games. It’s been an incredible run.”

The undefeated 3A NPSL champion Trojans (24-1), who placed fifth in the 3A state bracket last season and won the program’s first state title in 2022, enter next week’s regional round on a 13-game winning streak and without an in-state loss.

How much momentum does Auburn have following another district title win?

“A lot, of course, but we’re definitely going to stay humble,” Petty said. “Stay in the gym and keep working, because it’s not over.”

Petty scored a game-high 29 points in the contest, hit five 3-pointers and threw down two dunks during the Trojans’ third-quarter run, two days after his nose was broken when he was fouled going up for a shot on a fast break in the district semifinals.

“Not surprised,” Hansen said. “Not surprised at all. Jaylen’s a tough kid. He’s ultra competitive. That’s what makes him really good.”

Carter Hansen added nine points for Auburn in the win. Ray Adams scored 15 points to pace the Rams (20-4), who also advance to next week's state regionals.
