Recap Thursday's WIAA 1B boys and girls basketball state tournament quarterfinals

SPOKANE, WASHINGTON - The 2024 WIAA 1B boys and girls high school basketball state tournament continued Thursday (February 29) with the quarterfinals at Spokane Arena.

The Class 1B boys quarterfinal games tipped off first, with No. 4 DeSales beating No. 6 Cusick 56-48 in overtime to start the day. The 1B girls quarterfinals were played in the afternoon starting at 3:45 p.m., with No. 6 Oakesdale playing No. 4 Crosspoint in the first girls quarterfinal.

CLASS 1B BOYS SCORES, UPDATES

(Class 1B boys bracket)

QUARTERFINAL 1: No. 4 DeSales 56, No. 6 Cusick 48, OT

Game summary: Spencer Green racked up 22 points, 6 steals, 4 rebounds and 3 assists to lead DeSales to a 56-48 overtime victory over Cusick in the 1B boys basketball quarterfinals Thursday morning. After Cusick scored on a baseline out of bounds play to tie the game late in regulation, DeSales regrouped to dominate the overtime period, outscoring Cusick 10-2.

Maddox Filan added 15 points for DeSales, who will face Mossyrock in the semifinals on Friday at 3:45 p.m. Roland Campbell led Cusick with 19 points.

QUARTERFINAL 2: No. 7 Mossyrock 59, No. 1 Lummi Nation 43, Final

Game summaryZack Munoz put on a show, scoring 31 points to lift Mossyrock to a 59-43 win over top-seeded Lummi Nation in the 1B boys quarterfinals Thursday morning. Munoz was 7-for-16 from the field and 13-for-17 from the free throw line. Easton Kolb added 14 points for Mossyrock, who will play DeSales in the 1B semifinals on Friday at 3:45 p.m.

QUARTERFINAL 3: No. 5 Neah Bay 62, No. 3 Moses Lake/Covenant Christian 54, Final

Game summary: Neah Bay advances to Friday's 1B boys semifinals and will play the winner of Columbia Adventist vs. Wellpinit.

QUARTERFINAL 4: No. 2 Wellpinit 70, No. 15 Columbia Adventist 51, Final

Game summary: Grant Denison III had 31 points and 7 rebounds to lead Wellpinit over Columbia Adventist in the final 1B boys quarterfinal.

CLASS 1B GIRLS SCORES, UPDATES

QUARTERFINAL 1No. 4 Crosspoint 42, No. 6 Oakesdale 41, Final

Game summary: Crosspoint rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to stun Oakesdale 42-41 in the 1B girls basketball quarterfinals Thursday night. Riya Tobosa led Crosspoint with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

QUARTERFINAL 2: No. 1 Neah Bay 59, No. 7 Wilbur-Creston-Keller 42, Final

Game summary: Qwaapeys Greene scored 14 points and Ryana Moss had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals to lead Neah Bay over Wilbur-Creston-Keller in the 1B girls basketball quarterfinals Thursday night at Spokane Arena. Neah Bay moves on to face Crosspoint in the semifinals Friday night at 7:15 p.m.

QUARTERFINAL 3: No. 3 Waterville-Mansfield 57, No. 12 Garfield-Palouse 33, Final

Game summary: Holly Finkbeiner scored 20 points to lead Waterville-Mansfield over Garfield-Palouse in the 1B girls quarterfinals Thursday night. Jasmine Garcia added 11 points and 9 steals and Delainey Nelson had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Kyra Brantner led Garfield-Palouse with 14 points and 8 rebounds.

QUARTERFINAL 4: No. 2 Mount Vernon Christian 41, No. 9 Sunnyside Christian 26, Final

Game summary: Allie Heino had 13 points and 8 rebounds to lead Mount Vernon Christiaon over Sunnyside Christian in the 1B girls quarterfinals Thursday night.
