SAN DIEGO (AP) Jockey Joe Talamo took the day off from the races to marry his longtime girlfriend Friday.

He and Elizabeth Ellis wed at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in San Diego after dating for eight years. She is the daughter of trainer Ron Ellis, who initially rejected Talamo's request to date her in 2007. He eventually relented and their relationship was featured on the Animal Planet reality series ''Jockeys'' two years later.

The couple plans to honeymoon later this year. Talamo is set to return to riding Saturday at Del Mar, where he has three scheduled mounts, including one in the $100,000 Red Carpet Stakes.

The 25-year-old jockey won the Eclipse Award as the nation's top apprentice in 2007. He has one Breeders' Cup victory to his credit in 2009.
