Arcangelo Wins 2023 Belmont Stakes

Arcangelo galloped across the finish line first to win the 155th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday evening.

Arcangelo was trained by Jena Antonucci—who became the first woman to train a winning horse at the Triple Crown race—and entered Saturday’s race with 7–1 odds to win the final leg of this year’s Triple Crown.

Forte, who entered the Belmont Park with best odds to win the race at 5–2, finished second while Tapit Trice, which came into the race with 5–1 odds, finished third in the “Test of Champions.”

Bob Baffert’s National Treasure, this year’s Preakness winner, faded down the stretch, allowing Arcangelo to slip through the inside and into the lead.

Arcangelo’s victory in the 1 1/2 mile race marks the fifth consecutive year that three different thoroughbreds have won the trio of Triple Crown races. Mage won this year’s Kentucky Derby while National Treasure claimed the Preakness Stakes.

Mage did not participate in Saturday’s race after finishing third at the Preakness. However, the three-year-old colt is expected to run in Saratoga in August.
