Julian Edelman Shared Details on Awkward Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft Moment at Roast
If you thought Robert Kraft taking a shot with Bill Belichick at the Tom Brady roast meant everything was fine between the two football giants, think again. There is apparently still enough tension to cut with a knife, according to Julian Edelman.
The former New England Patriots wide receiver, who also attended the roast, hosted Drew Bledsoe on the latest episode of the "Games With Names" podcast. There, Edelman said he and other former players were in the green room before the show kicked off chatting with Belichick. Then Kraft walked into the room and, according to Edelman, the tension in the room "could cut f----ing glass." He was unable to recount anything after that because Edelman walked away before the atmosphere grew even more uncomfortable.
This is not terribly surprising to hear. Belichick's final press conference announcing his departure from New England was nice enough. But reports have since emerged suggesting the split wasn't entirely amicable. Then The Dynasy came out on AppleTV, which was panned for painting Belichick in a negative light and was produced by Kraft Productions. Most recently, an ESPN exposé detailing Belichick's struggles to find a head coaching position this hiring cycle said Kraft torpeoded his best chance by telling Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank that he wasn't to be trusted.
Both men are quite private individuals and the general public will never know exactly how everything went down in Belichick's final days as king in Foxborough. But going off the information that has become public, and reading a few tea leaves, it sure seems like there was a lot of friction between head coach and owner after Brady left.
Who knows if Belichick and Kraft will ever be in the same room together again, but if they are, anybody around them should make like Edelman and scoot on out of there. Because things are going to get awkward quickly.
