The ability to ski, snowboard, paraglide, and fly (using a wing suit) through the Alps is now at your fingertips. Ubisoft, a leading game and entertainment producer, is releasing Steep, an action sports game that will be available in December on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. The creators of the game were inspired by extreme sports videos on social media. “We love seeing videos of adventures and stunts that riders from all over the world share on social media,” said Igor Manceau, creative director at Ubisoft.
In the game, players are dropped onto mountains in the Alps and have the ability to create their own trails and rides, relive rides, share replays, and challenge themselves and other players in games and create stunts on the mountainous terrain. The game is also only in “GoPro view” meaning it is explicitly first-person view and each character has a GoPro strapped on their helmet.
The game gives users the ability to share rides and challenge friends to race down the mountain. “Steep’s open-world and wealth of multiplayer activities were built to inspire this type of creativity,” said Manceau. The sharing also doesn’t have to just occur between the users on the gaming platform. Users can take their work and create replay videos to share on social media. These videos are meant to replicate the ones professionals post of their wild rides down the mountain, which inspired the game.
