Sky Sports to show 126 EPL matches in 4K this season

Sky Sports, the leading sports network in the UK, wants to lead the 4K sports broadcasting charge. The network just announced that it would be airing English Premier League soccer games in Ultra HD, for 4K televisions. Sky Sports will feature 126 EPL games this upcoming season, starting with the defending champions Leicester City playing Hull City.

Last February, Sky created Sky Q, a look towards crafting a next generation TV service. They came up with the Sky Q Silver service, which has already launched to air movies and upcoming Formula 1 races.

Sky does not charge any extra money upfront to access the Sky Q Silver, but a 4K-compatible box is required for the channel, which costs more than £54 per month.

“With Sky Q, we created the world’s best TV experience,” Luke Bradley-Jones,  Sky’s director of TV and content products, told The Guardian. “Now with the introduction of an unrivalled lineup of Ultra HD TV, the service is going to get even better, truly enhancing customers’ viewing experience.”

Along with premiering sports, Sky Q Silver will also show a number of movies, dramas and other programs. They are even debuting the latest James Bond movie, Spectre.

This is not the first time that Sky has been on the cutting edge of technological advancements. It is one of the most forward-thinking sports networks in the world, having created an in-house virtual reality studio in March.

Then, just last month, Sky partnered with Ginx TV to create a channel completely dedicated to covering eSports around the clock, seeing it becoming one of the fastest growing trends in the sports industry.
