ESPN’s Chris Mortensen anticipates resuming NFL coverage this season
ESPN NFL reporter Chris Mortensen responded well to treatment for Stage IV throat cancer.
ESPN NFL reporter Chris Mortensen’s throat cancer “has been virtually reduced to zero detection,” he announced Wednesday.
Mortensen’s doctors have instructed him to begin rehab from various treatment related health complications and will have his status monitored over the next three months.
Mortensen said he is unsure when he will return to work but anticipates “being able to participate in NFL coverage on a limited basis as the 2016 season gets underway.”
Mortensen announced in January that he was diagnosed with Stage IV throat cancer. After the diagnosis, numerous NFL players and coaches offered well wishes.
Mortensen continued reporting sporadically, most notably breaking the news of Peyton Manning’s retirement in March.
