TIME debuts '100 Photographs: The Most Influential Images of All Time'

You'll probably recognize some of the sports photos included in TIME's new photography project.

TIME is debuting an unprecedented exploration of the 100 most influential photographs of all-time to commemorate the 175th anniversary of photography and the birth of photojournalism.

Among the photographs that are featured are Nat Fein's rear-angled composition of Babe Ruth at Yankee Stadium, which is the first sports photograph to ever win the Pulitzer Prize, and Neil Leifer's shot of Muhammad Ali reacting after his first round knockout of Sonny Liston in the 1965 World Heavyweight Title fight. The shot of Tommie Smith and John Carlos giving the Black Power salute at the 1968 Olympics is also highlighted in the project.

Some of the photos may be more recognizable than others, but all of them changed, influenced or commemorated a particular world event.

The “100 Photographs” webpage features high-resolution versions of photos and provocative video vignettes. Visitors can also purchase high quality poster-size prints of select photos as well as a coffee table book.
