Chicago Cubs outfielder Marlon Byrd dived -- and missed -- trying to catch a bloop fly from Derek Jeter in the sixth. Roy Halladay an the NL escaped the inning thanks in part to a strikeout (Paul Konerko)-throw out (Elvis Andrus) double play to remain down 1-0.

Braves catcher Brian McCann hit a bases-clearing double off White Sox reliever Matt Thornton in the seventh to give the National League a 3-1 lead. Despite the loaded All-Star rosters, the NL only brought two catchers.

Marlon Byrd scored from first base on McCann's double, just beating the tag of Toronto Blue Jays catcher John Buck. Byrd later made an alert play in the ninth to help seal the win for the National League.

Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was thrown out from the outfield trying to advance from first base to second base in the ninth inning. The crucial play kept the American League from mounting a rally against Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton.
