Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki went a combined 8-for-10 with five home runs and nine RBIs in the Rockies' 12-4 win over the Reds at Great American Ball Park Wednesday night. In the process, Gonzalez and Tulowitzki became the first pair of teammates in major league history to have a three-homer game (Gonzalez, 3-for-5) and a five-hit game (Tulowitzki, who homered twice in going 5-for-5) in the same game.

Throw in Nolan Arenado's 4-for-6 performance, and the second-through-fourth spots in Colorado's order combined to go 12-for-16, providing 60 percent of the team's 20 hits while both scoring and driving in nine runs. That may not have even been the worst part of the night for the Reds, who had to scratch intended starter, ace Johnny Cueto due to a strained latssisimus dorsi muscle that landed him back on the disabled list for the second time this season.

Gonzalez previously hit three home runs in a game on May 30 of last season against the Astros at Coors Field. It's worth noting that Wednesday's outburst came outside of Denver's Coors Field, even if it happened in another hitting friendly ballpark. In his first four seasons with the Rockies, Gonzalez hit .353/.413/.641 at home but just .261/.318/.438 on the road. This year, he is hitting .348/.414/.696 with 11 of his 17 home runs away from Coors. Remarkably, with the Rockies up by eight runs, Gonzalez was replaced in the field after homering in the eighth inning only to see his spot in the order come up again in the ninth. Dexter Fowler, who didn't start this game, struck out in his place.
