The Dodgers extended their record since June 22 to 40-8 with an eventful 5-4 win over the Mets in 12 innings Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium. The top four most notable things that happened in the game, were, in order of occurrence:
1. Puig guns down Byrd
With the game still scoreless in the top of the second, Marlon Byrd attempted to go first to third on a dink single over first base into no-man's land in shallow right field by Justin Turner, but he forgot about Yasiel Puig:

2. Hawkins gets one in the LaTroys
On to save a would-be 4-2 win for the Mets in the ninth, veteran righty LaTroy Hawkins gave up a lead-off single to Mark Ellis, then got Jerry Hairston to hit a groundball . . .directly into his, um, well, here's the gif (from Deadspin):
And here's Hawkins' tweet about the play:
Hawkins wasn't wearing a cup, which makes you wonder if it's any coincidence that the next hitter did this:
3. Ethier refuses to lose

Talk about adding insult to injury.

4. Puig, Gonzalez double for the win
