Watch: Red Sox clinch World Series championship

After they solved Michael Wacha by piling up three runs apiece in the third and fourth innings, the countdown was on for the Red Sox to close out the Cardinals in Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday night. Aside from a threat in the seventh inning that led to the lone St. Louis run, they did so in orderly fashion en route to a 6-1 win. When Koji Uehara struck out Matt Carpenter on an 81-mph splitter, it marked the first time since 1918 that the Sox clinched a championship at Fenway Park. (GIF above from @gifdsports)

The victory gives Boston its eighth world championship overall and its third in the past 10 seasons, with 2004 and 2007 being the others. Those two were sweeps over the Cardinals and Rockies, respectively. This was a much harder-fought series, with four of the six games decided by one or two runs, and two of them ending in crazy, unprecedented fashion.
