CORCORAN: Injuries to Molina, Phillips will make big impact in NL Central race
It is the second All-Star selection for Montero, who was also selected in 2011. He is batting .265/.346/.419 this season, with 11 home runs. Montero was chosen over Buster Posey, who is batting .279/.337/.421 on the year.
Montero will not start the game, however; that honor goes to Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy, who was narrowly defeated by Molina in the original fan vote.
This week Molina underwent surgery to repair a torn thumb ligament and is expected to miss 8-12 weeks.
