Report: Marlins not optimistic of signing Giancarlo Stanton long-term
Young signed a one-year, $7.25 million deal with the Mets in November, but the 30-year-old hit only .205 with eight homers and 28 RBIs in 88 games this season.
New York recalled Matt den Dekker to replace Young on the 25-man roster.
The Mets, who had lost four of five entering Friday, designated Bobby Abreu for assignment on Monday.
Young has 152 career home runs in nine big league seasons — seven with the Diamondbacks, one with the A's and one with the Mets. He was also a 2010 National League All-Star.
