The Detroit Tigers sent pitcher Anibal Sanchez to the 15-day disabled list on Sunday with a strained right pectoral muscle, the team announced via Twitter.
The move is retroactive to August 9 and could sideline him for the next three to four weeks. The team also announced on Sunday that Robbie Ray will start on the mound in Wednesday's game vs. the Pirates.
The 30-year-old — last year's AL ERA champion — left Friday's 5-4 win vs. the Blue Jays in the fifth inning because of the strained muscle. He underwent an MRI over the weekend in Detroit.
The Tigers remain atop the AL Central heading into Sunday's series finale in Toronto.
