Texas Rangers set record with 60 players used in 2014
This season hasn't been a good one for the Rangers, as they entered play on Tuesday with the worst record in baseball at 53-84.
But they did manage to set a big-league record — for most players used in a season.

Derek Holland, who has been on the disabled list all season recovering from left knee surgery, started Tuesday's game in Kansas City and became Texas' record-setting 60th player used this season, according to Dave Skretta of the Associated Press. The Indians and Padres used 59 players in 2002, as did the 2008 Padres.
"You have to put nine guys on the field every day," said manager Ron Washington, who has likened the Rangers' clubhouse this season to Grand Central Terminal, "and you have to put them out there and believe they can get the job done. We chose everything we thought could come up here and not melt down, so we've seen everything."
Texas, which also tied a record on Tuesday with its 37th pitcher used, had four straight 90-win seasons entering this season. The Rangers currently have 14 players on the disabled list, which also leads the majors.

"You never want to be in this situation," Washington said, "believe me."
Washington, 62, is 664-608 (.522) in eight seasons as the Rangers' manager with two World Series appearances. He said he probably couldn't name all 60 of the players he has used this year.
"I would have to sit down here and just go deep into what's left up here," he said, tapping the side of his head, "and I probably still wouldn't come up with all of them."
