Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his left hand on Thursday, according to reports.
Pedroia, 31, was batting .278 with seven home runs and 53 RBI in 551 at bats this season.

Last summer Pedroia signed a seven-year contract extension that runs through 2021.
The Red Sox currently sit in last place in the American League East with a 63-83 record.
