Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw to start NLDS Game 4 on short rest

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw will start Game 4 of the NLDS on short rest. Kershaw started Game 1 against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw will start Game 4 of the NLDS on short rest, the team announced Monday. 

Kershaw started Game 1 and will be pitching against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday on three days rest.

The Dodgers also announced that Zack Greinke, who started Game 2, will start a potential Game 5 on Thursday. Greinke would be pitching on regular rest.

After losing just three games all season, Kershaw gave up eight earned runs in 6 2/3 innings in Game 1 and took the loss as the Dodgers fell 10-9. Six of Kershaw's runs came in the seventh inning. 

Last season, Kershaw started Game 4 of the 2013 NLDS on three days rest, giving up three hits and no earned runs in six innings. Los Angeles won that game, 4-3. 

Kershaw went 21-3 with a 1.77 ERA during the regular season and is seen as the heavy favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award.

St. Louis opted to not pitch its Game 1 starter, Adam Wainwright, on short rest in Game 4 and will start Shelby Miller.

The Dodgers-Cardinals series is tied 1-1 entering Monday's Game 3.
