Moment of silence will be held before Game 6 for Oscar Taveras, girlfriend
Before Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday, a moment of silence will be observed in honor of Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras and his girlfriend, Edilia Arvelo, who were killed in a car crash Sunday.
Taveras, 22, was traveling to his hometown of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, at the time of the accident. He was driving when his sports car collided with a tree, according to a police report. His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, Cardinals officials told MLB.com.
Taveras was ranked as the No. 3 prospect in baseball prior to this season by Baseball America, MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus. He made his major league debut this season on May 31, and hit a home run in his second at bat. He also hit a game-tying home run in Game 2 of this year's NLCS.
