The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed outfielder Andy Dirks off waivers from the Detroit Tigers, the team announced Friday.

Dirks missed the entire 2014 season after undergoing back surgery in preseason and then suffering a hamstring injury. In 2013, he batted .256 with 60 runs scored and 37 RBI.

In addition to Dirks, the team acquired Royals pitcher Liam Hendriks in exchange for minor league catcher Santiago Nessy. They also signed Canadian pitcher Jeff Francis to the minor league with an invite to spring training.
The Blue Jays finished the season with an 83-79 record, while the Tigers lost to the Baltimore Orioles in the AL Division Series.
