The 2016 major league baseball All-Star game is expected to be played at Petco Park, the home of the San Diego Padres, according to Scott Miller of Turner Sports.

An official announcement of the venue will likely come in January next year. Previous reports named the Baltimore Orioles' Camden Yards as the location for the game, while the Miami Marlins' Marlins Park was also mentioned.

The 2015 All-Star game will be held at the Great American Ball Park, home field of the Cincinnati Reds. This past season's All-Star game was played at Target Field in Minnesota.

The venue, decided upon each year by a selection committee, typically alternates between American League and National League teams. The league that wins the All-Star game is awarded home field advantage in that season's World Series.

The Padres finished the 2014 season with a record of 77-85, placing third in the NL West behind the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
