San Diego will host 2016 All-Star Game
The San Diego Padres will host the 2016 MLB All-Star Game at Petco Park, the league announced Thursday.
It will be the 87th All-Star Game and the third in San Diego. The Padres also hosted the 1978 and 1992 editions of the Midsummer Classic at the team's former home, Qualcomm Stadium.
"I am very pleased to award the 2016 All-Star Game to the San Diego Padres, who made a detailed and comprehensive bid in conjunction with city officials," departing MLB commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement. "San Diego is one of America's most beautiful cities, and showcasing Petco Park in its thriving downtown will be a remarkable opportunity for the Padres franchise and all of Major League Baseball."
The 2015 All-Star Game will be played in Cincinnati at Great American Ballpark.
