Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale will have his jersey number retired by Florida Gulf Coast University in a ceremony on Jan. 31, the school announced Monday

Sale played three seasons at FGCU, the only Division I school to offer him a scholarship. He entered the MLB draft in 2010 after his junior season and was selected with the 13th pick. Later that summer he made his major league debut with the White Sox.

Rangers acquire Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo

Sale was an All-Star in each of the past three seasons and finished in the top six in Cy Young voting each year. He led the American League with 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings last season.

Sale will be honored in a ceremony before FGCU's basketball game against Northern Kentucky.
