Mariners' Safeco Field to become first MLB ballpark with LED lights
The Seattle Mariners are set to make Safeco Field the first MLB ballpark to use LED lights, according to KING 5 News in Washington.
The Mariners are replacing the 600 high intensity lights that have lit Safeco in the past and are installing an LED system designed by the company Planled.

According to Planled founder and CEO John Hwang, the system will cut the Mariners' lighting costs by 60 percent. The new bulbs could last for 50 years or longer, according to Hwang.
KING 5 News reports that MLB lighting experts spent two days measuring lighting levels "over every inch of Safeco" and have approved the new system. The LED lights are expected to be ready for Seattle's first home game of the 2015 season, which is on April 6.
