Yoenis Cespedes: 'I would like to be in a Tigers uniform for many years'

Detroit Tigers leftfielder Yoenis Cespedes said on Sunday he would like to remain with the team "for many years."

After being traded to the Detroit Tigers in December, Yoenis Cespedessaid on Sunday he would like to remain with his new team "for many years."

The Boston Red Sox traded Cespedes to Detroit along with reliever Alex Wilson and prospect Gabe Speier in exchange for starter Rick Porcello.

"I would like to be in a Tigers uniform for many years," Cespedes said Sunday through an interpreter in his first interview with English-speaking media since he reported to camp. "It's a good team now and it will be for many years to come. Every major league player wants a ring, and with this team, you have a really good chance."

Cespedes, 29, was traded to the Red Sox last July by the Oakland Athletics. He hit .260 with 22 home runs, 100 RBI and a .751 OPS over the course of the season, earning his first All-Star Game berth in the process.

Cespedes will make $10.5 million this season, the last of the four-year contract he initially signed with the Athletics. He will also be a free agent after the season.

Cespedes is expected to replace Torii Hunter, who signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Twins in December.
