Watch: Angels, Royals game delayed by swarm of bees

Sunday's spring training game in Tempe, Ariz., between the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels was delayed twice by a swarm of bees at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

Sunday's Cactus League game in Tempe, Ariz., between the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels was delayed twice by a swarm of bees at Tempe Diablo Stadium.

The first swarm pushed back first pitch 10 minutes, as the bees headed from the outfield toward a television microphone set up on the backstop behind home plate. The Angels' players were called off the field before play resumed.

In the middle of the fourth inning, beekeeper Wil Godwin of City West Pest Control of Tempe was called in to deal with the bees that had still not moved from the microphone behind home plate. Godwin's spraying of pesticide prompted another delay of about 10 minutes.

"They basically probably got tired and went there to chill," Godwin said. "And then typically, they send out a few scouts to go search for another place while the rest of them stick around and protect the queen bee."

The Royals won the game 6-4, their fifth straight to open spring training.
