The New York Yankees have activated pitcher Chris Capuano from the 15-day disabled list, the team announced on Sunday.
Capuano will start Sunday's game against the Royals in Kansas City, marking his season debut. He missed the start of the season due to a quad injury sustained during spring training.
Pitcher Bryan Mitchell was optioned to Triple A to make room for Capuano on the roster.
On Friday, New York placed pitcher Chase Whitley on the 15-day DL with a right elbow sprain. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman later reported that Whitley tore his UCL and could require Tommy John surgery.
