The Pittsburgh Pirates' Pedro Alvarez became the third player ever to hit a home run out of PNC Park Tuesday night when he corked a 446-foot bomb over the right field stands and into the Allegheny River.

Almost.

Before it could find its way to water, the ball bounced into a boat docked on the bank of the river directly abutting the stadium. A man and a woman walking along the river walk outside the stadium noticed the ball in the boat, and man gallantly retrieved it.

If the distance on the home run is confirmed, that would make it the 18th longest shot of the year, according to Hit Tracker Online. But the ball is likely the only one of those home runs to land in a watercraft.

Hopefully the boat owner isn't rightfully claiming the ball as his own.

Last week, the Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run out of Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles that was estimated to have traveled 476 feet.

While that ball didn't run any chance of hitting a boat or water out in Chavez Ravine, it at least allegedly hit the back part of the stadium roof on the way down.
