New York Mets pitcher and elder statesman Bartolo Colon nearly eked out an infield single Wednesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals on a short grounder to catcher Yadier Molina.

Colon chopped a 1–1 pitch from Carlos Martinez a few feet in front of home plate. The 250-pound, 5'10" pitcher then scampered down the first-base line and was called safe by umpire Adrian Johnson.

Sadly, the play was ruled an error on Molina instead of a hit after he bobbled the ball.

All in all, stretching out an infield grounder for a single is one of Colon's greatest hitting accomplishments, perhaps only behind this double he hit in April.
