Reports: Red Sox recall outfielder Rusney Castillo to start Friday
Rusney Castillo has been recalled by the Boston Red Sox and is expected to start on Friday night.
Multiple reports Friday indicated Castillo had been called up, and the Cuban outfielder appeared at Fenway Park on Friday afternoon. Castillo told reporters he would be in the lineup, and MLB.com's Ian Browne reported Castillo would be batting eighth and playing right field.
After successfully defecting from Cuba, Castillo, 27, signed a seven-year, $72.5 million deal with Boston last August and batted .333 in 10 games for Boston in 2014. Castillo hit .293 with two home runs, 10 RBIs and six steals in 18 games for Pawtucket this season.
Outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is expected to be optioned to Triple A Pawtucket in a corresponding move.
