Diamondbacks call up catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia
The Arizona Diamondbacks have selected the contract of catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, the team announced Friday.
The move corresponded with the placement of catcher Tuffy Gosewisch on the 15-day disabled list with a 'left knee ACL injury.' Gosewisch batted .211 with one home run and a .542 OPS in 38 games prior to suffering the injury Wednesday.
Saltalamacchia signed a minor league deal with Arizona on May 7, two days after being released by the Miami Marlins. At the time of his release, he was hitting .069 (2-29) with a .389 OPS in nine games.
In parts of nine major league seasons with the Braves, Rangers, Red Sox and Marlins, Saltalamacchia has hit .240 with a .725 OPS and 90 home runs.
Saltalamacchia and Jordan Pacheco are Arizona's options behind the plate.
