Marlins demote struggling reliever Steve Cishek to Double A
The Miami Marlins have sent relief pitcher Steve Cishek to Double A Jacksonville, the team announced Monday. A corresponding move has not yet been announced.
"I don't think this will be a long-term deal," manager Dan Jennings told reporters, according to Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald. "It's about something mechanically that can be tweaked."
Cishek, who turns 29 on June 18, has a 6.98 ERA this season. He has 17 strikeouts and 10 walks in 19 1/3 innings.
Cishek spent the last three seasons as Miami's closer, totaling 88 saves, but lost the job on May 12 after blowing four of seven save opportunities. A.J. Ramos blew two saves earlier this season but is 4 for 4 after supplanting Cishek.
