Watch: Phillies get walk-off win on Reds error

The Philadelphia Phillies won in walk-off fashion in the 11th inning of Wednesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds at Citizens Bank Park.

In a game where the Cincinnati Reds took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before blowing a four-run lead in the ninth, the Philadelphia Phillies picked up a 5–4 win Wednesday on an 11th-inning error at Citizens Bank Park.

With one out in the bottom of the 11th and the game tied 4–4, Phillies third baseman Cody Asche doubled to left field. Two pitches later, Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis bounced a grounder to Reds first baseman Joey Votto. Votto was pulled toward second base as he fielded the ball, so Reds pitcher Ryan Mattheus went to cover the bag. Mattheus was unable to catch Votto’s flip over to first, however, allowing the ball to bounce away and Asche to score the game-winning run.

The game unfolded in the Reds’ favor, as righthander Mike Leake took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and the team carried a 4–0 lead into the bottom of the ninth.

Thanks to a pair of singles, an error by Reds rightfielder Jay Bruce and a sacrifice fly by Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, Philadelphia managed to get its first run across.

Two batters later, Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco hit a three-run home run to left field to tie the game at 4–4.

The win was the Phillies’ second in the three-game series and moved them to 21–33. The Reds fell to 22–29. The series finale will be played Thursday at 7:05 p.m. ET.
