Three sons of former major league players drafted before second round
The sons of three former major league players began their own quest toward MLB careers Monday night at the 2015 MLB draft.
Ke'Bryan Hayes, son of 14-year corner infielder Charlie Hayes, was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the No. 32 pick out of Concordia Lutheran (Texas) High School. The 6', 200-pound third baseman is committed to the University of Tennessee, but is expected to sign with the Pirates in the coming days.
Five selections later, the Houston Astros took Daz Cameron, longtime MLB outfielder Mike Cameron's son. An outfielder like his father, Daz wowed scouts with his base running and defensive abilities in the lead up to the draft. Daz had been projected in some mock drafts to go to the Astros - but at the team's No. 5 selection, not its No. 37 selection.

Not to be outdone, the Colorado Rockies selected Tyler Nevin with the 38th pick. Nevin is the son of Phil Nevin, the former San Diego Padres and Detroit Tigers player. Tyler had Tommy John surgery in 2013 but projects to hit for power, according to several scouts.
The trend of notable baseball offspring being selected could continue Tuesday during Day 2 of the MLB draft. Mariano Rivera III, the son of legendary New York Yankees reliever Mariano Rivera, is expected to be selected by the team from the Bronx.
